Yay, it’s time to hit the outdoors but before driving off into the wilderness, make sure to tell someone or a few people where you are planning on spending your time outdoors.

This way if you get into any trouble it will be easier for search parties to locate you and also give people peace of mind.

If you have a map, grab the coordinates or defining features, such as a campground, mountain, lake etc.

Usually when camping a headtorch and camp fire is more than enough light for your trip.

But what happens when it is raining outside or there is a complete fire ban?

You don’t want to just sit around a head torch. That is why you should strap your headtorch or torch to a water-filled bottle

This will not only spread the light more evenly but also give off a nice glow.

For an added experience, you can half fill the bottle, shake it up and then enjoy the reflection of the water on your tent and surroundings.

Ticks are probably some of the worst things on earth, right after mosquitoes.

They dig themselves into your skin and survive of your precious life juice. But you don’t have to deal with them as a simple mixture of water and tea tree oil will keep the nasty buggers away.

Mix 2 parts of water and 1 part tea tree oil in a spray bottle and apply it over your cuffs, hat, socks.

Duct tape is probably one of the most versatile things you can take out camping with you.

You can use it for repairing your tent, patching up holes in your mattress, fixing up your shoes.

Obviously, these aren’t repairs that you will be able to rely on for years to come but while camping you won’t really have the time to go to a shop and buy a replacement.

As an added bonus, duct tape is perfect for placing over blisters on your feet as it has a smooth side to prevent rubbing

Freeze your food before campingCamping Tips, Camping Hacks

If you are planning on going camping for a few days and have food that can go off, the best thing you can do is store the food in a cooler with ice.

By doing so it will significantly increase the time your food stays fresh.

But to store frozen food you will require plenty of ice. Usually the same amount of ice as food.

This takes up plenty of space, so a quick and simple tip you can use is to freeze your foods so that they keep everything cool as well. By doing this you can significantly reduce the amount of ice required.

Things you shouldn’t freeze though. Fresh vegetables and fruit as when they defrost the go very mushy.

Things you should freeze. Meat and pre-made meals. Keep in mind that you want to cook up the meat as soon as possible so that it does not collect bacteria

Don’t wear cotton while you are out camping

Camping Tips, Camping Hacks

The reason why you should not wear cotton while camping or in the outdoors is that when it gets when it doesn’t keep you warm.

In fact, it does the opposite and takes your warmth away from your body. In a camping situation this is really dangerous.

As prolonged periods of time where you are wet and cold can cause hypothermia.

Additionally to that, it takes quite a long time to dry.

A great alternative are Woolen, down or synthetic materials as they hold warms even when you are soaked wet.

Seeing as you have duct tape already just put a quick label on them for simple identification.

Burn leftovers

It might seem kind of obvious, but once you are done with your food and the fire is still red hot, throw those food leftovers on the fire to dispose of them.

It will save you having to carry around any food waste. But make sure to take with you things that don’t burn completely, such as bones.

Also, a fire is not a magical disposable bin so don’t throw in plastics and other man-made products as they will become toxic when they burn

Eat before you sleepCamping Tips, Camping Hacks

If it is getting cold outside and you feel it while sleeping, a good idea is to grab a quick snack that is packed full of energy so that your body can use it to warm itself up.

I usually recommend not to eat as your body requires time to regenerate but when it is cold this is a great way to combat it.

Another good idea is to drink water. The reason behind it is that your body requires water to run efficiently.

If your body does not have enough water you will actually feel colder.
